Women’s Cancer Resource Center – Policy for Participation in Programs

WCRC commits to provide a safe and welcoming environment. To this end, program staff/facilitators will provide screening, assessment, ground rules and feedback for participants. If necessary, program staff/facilitators may decide to limit an individual’s participation or ask an individual to leave if they feel it is in the best interest of the other program participants.

Gentle Yoga :: 1 to 2 PM

This class includes a gentle asana practice as well as restorative poses. No previous
experience necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing. Especially for women with cancer. Supporters may attend as space allows. Registration required »

Expressive Arts (Art Therapy) Workshop

The diagnosis of cancer takes one on a complex journey that's often beyond words. Guided imagery and expressive arts therapy can offer a supportive space for exploring emotions, reconnecting to intuition and imagination, and creating symbols and objects that hold personal meaning. Join us for an evening of relaxation, creativity and community during which we will enjoy a variety of expressive arts activities. No art experience is necessary. All supplies are provided.

Facilitator: Merideth Bowen Shamszad, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern #58805, Supervised by Merry Ross, MFT #37401 at the Living Arts Counseling Center in Oakland. Merideth has an MA in Counseling (Expressive Arts Specialization) from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She is also a registered physical therapist and has studied the use of guided imagery, expressive arts and psychotherapy for health and healing. As a writer, painter, and cancer survivor, she knows firsthand the power of the arts to create personal transformation.
