WCRC NEWS

Barbeque for Sisters
The start of the new fiscal year means the start of fundraising here at the Center. We are excitied to kick off this year with a new event--The Barbeque for Sisters! Join us for great food and lots of fun -- a special barbeque feast at Everett & Jones, 126 Broadway, Jack London Square, on Sunday, July 18, 3-7pm, to support the Sister to Sister program of the Women’s Cancer Resource Center, this program serves African American women who have cancer. We all know the statistics of how hard cancer hits the African American community--and Sister to Sister is one of the best programs in the East Bay to help women in their crisis. So come on down and enjoy the best BBQ around. We are asking for you to purchase your tickets before the event. So stop by the Center or call 601-4040 x 100 for your ticket today!

Kaching! Kaching!
The WCRC is seeking a woman with financial/business expertise to become our Treasurer of the Board of Directors. It is a chance to work with a great group of women on the Board, a terrific staff and insure the long term financial viability of the Center. Please call/email Mary Tunison, Executive Director at the Center if you want to learn more or ask questions. 510/601-4040 ext 101 or mary@wcrc.org

Mom! I’m Bored!
If your teenager is already saying that to you, WCRC may be able to help. We have lots of small and medium-sized projects perfect for a teenager some summer afternoon. It isn’t glamorous work: filing, shredding, photocopying and re-shelving books, but it is work that we could use some bright young students to help us with. Please be at least 15, and able to work alone with minimal supervision. We think this is a win for your mom and a win for the Center, as we help keep kids dying from boredom!

Volunteer Orientation
The Volunteer Orientation scheduled for Monday, July 12, has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. The next Volunteer Orientation will be held on Monday, August 9, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. However, if you are interested in scheduling a time to meet with our new Volunteer Associate, Sarah Kurhajetz, before August 9, please contact her at 510.601.4040 x 105.
