WCRC Support Groups
A Lesbians with Cancer Support Group is now starting
at WCRC. Meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays
of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the WCRC, 5741 Telegraph
Avenue, Oakland. The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday,
December 12, 2004.
This is a peer-based support group for lesbians with various
types of cancer. Please call the WCRC Helpline at 510-420-7900
between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to get the phone
numbers for the group facilitators; we request that you
call before attending. If you have additional questions
or need directions, please call the WCRC Helpline, 510.420.7900.

2005 Breast Cancer Survivor Calendar
An Oakland-based photographer, Elizabeth Opalenik, has completed
a 2005 fine-art photographic calendar that is a fundraiser
for the Healing Workshops for Breast Cancer Survivors, and
is a compilation of photographs of breast cancer survivors
who have participated in these workshops. 100% of the proceeds
of sale of the calendar go directly to a scholarship fund
for the workshops. These workshops are held in Maine throughout
the year, and are attended by women of diverse ages and
experience from around the country. The Healing Workshops
incorporate the arts (photographic, movement, writing and
others), as well as personal coaching by Harvard physician,
Dr. Matt Budd. The "Enlighten-ment" calendar sells
for $15 and can be purchased
online, at local bookstores and retail shops. Get more

Treatments
Session topics include: terminology, risk factors, staging
and classification, diagnosis and future directions.

The Second Annual Lesbian Health Salon Series
Each Salon in the series will include a meet and mingle
hour followed by an informal, interactive discussion on
a selected topic led by LHRC medical and research leaders.
There is no charge to attend.
The Salon Series was initiated last year by LHRC Community
Leadership Circle co-chair, Jan Corlett, PhD. At each event
the question of how lesbian health differs from women's
health in general will be briefly addressed. Timeframe for
each Salon is 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM.
* Who Will Participate -
Participating in the Salons will be interested community
members, health care personnel and others who wish to explore
topics related to lesbian health and the services and functions
of LHRC. Medical practitioners, researchers and others in
the field will serve as featured speakers.

About the Lesbian Health Research Center - The Lesbian
Health Research Center (LHRC) is specifically and uniquely
concerned with the health and well being of lesbians, bisexual
women, transgendered individuals and their families; and
with the health care available to them. We believe that
every lesbian has the right to be fully informed about her
health, health care should be sensitive and relevant to
lesbians and lesbian health research is critical. LHRC has

and into the hands of community members and health care
