Women's Cancer Resource Center Newsletter
November 11, 2005

As we announced in the last newsletter, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco has partnered with the WCRC on a project to renovate the center. Led by their instructor, Grant Gibson, a recognized local designer, nine master’s thesis students (Shira O’Keefe, Nicole Bowen, Nancy Wu, Michelle Kennedy, Kortney Giometti, Amy Simmons, Andrea Hunt, Melodie Batt, and Chanie Russell), with support from Diane Cuyler and Barbara Cupper, are working with us to assess our space and storage needs and to develop interior and exterior design options. Our goal is to create a more welcoming, serene and healing environment.

The students have developed an initial proposal that includes a warm color palette of rich olive green, burgundy, amber, paprika and kabocha (Japanese pumpkin), a reception area, “decluttering” and storage space, expanded kitchen space, and comfortable and attractive seating and office furniture. These designs are being reviewed by staff, clients, Board members and volunteers and feedback is being provided to the design team. We also are beginning to raise funds to support the project and invite you to join us for an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and raffle prizes, benefiting the Women’s Cancer Resource Center.

Location: Frette, 124 Geary Street, San Francisco

Now you can support WCRC and do your holiday shopping all in one place! The Think Outside of the Box alternative holiday gift fair in Albany offers holiday shoppers an alternative to consumerism: Targeted donations to non-profit agencies working to make the world a better place. At the Fair, shoppers will be presented with a range of holiday gift possibilities, such as a donation of $15 to support attendance of an independent living skills workshop, $25 to assist recovering wildlife, or $50 for a micro-credit loan to women entrepreneurs in a developing country. For each donation, the giver will get a holiday card with a description of the organization and gift. In short, everyone wins.
