Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering with WCRC is a really fun thing to do! You have the opportunity to be a part of a community, health or volunteer fair, find out about the great work being done at other organizations and also there is often good music, beautiful art and delicious food. Please contact me if you would like to sign up for one of these events. The shifts will probably be for about 2 or 3 hours each and we try to have 2 people per shift. One person stops by the center to pick up the materials prior to the event and another person returns the materials sometime the following week. Call Sarah at 510.601.4040 x 105.

Pesticides Alert in Oakland
For the last two months the City of Oakland has been engaged in a heated debate over yet another exemption to the city’s pesticide ban. This coming Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at 7pm, a proposal to use herbicides as a measure to prevent wildfires in the Oakland hills is scheduled to go before the full city council. We urge groups and individuals who are concerned about the effects of toxics on health and the environment, to come out to the meeting and oppose any further weakening of Oakland’s ban on pesticides.

There is also an online fax campaign, which has been targeting various city council members, where you can send a free fax at http://local-impact.org/learn12.html. Please view the toxicological profiles of the chemicals proposed for use at eastbaypesticidealert.org, and click on Local Issues. If you have any questions or for further dialogue please contact our Chronic Effects Researcher Maxina Ventura at 510-895-2312 beneficialbug@netzero.net, or Isis Feral at 510-444-0193.

Please come to the CITY COUNCIL MEETING, Tuesday, April 5, 2005 - 7pm (6pm for seating, and to sign up to speak.) Oakland City Hall - One Frank H. Ogawa Plaza - Free parking in lot directly behind City Hall: write _City Council meeting_ on ticket. (Please check back with us at www.eastbaypesticidealert.org for updates, as city agendas have been known to change with little notice.)

About the Lesbian Health Research Center - The Lesbian Health Research Center (LHRC) is specifically and uniquely concerned with the health and well being of lesbians, bisexual women, transgendered individuals and their families; and with the health care available to them. We believe that every lesbian has the right to be fully informed about her health, health care should be sensitive and relevant to lesbians and lesbian health research is critical. LHRC has begun to bring lesbian health information out of the closet and into the hands of community members and health care providers through its on-going activities and services. For information, visit <http://www.lesbianhealthinfo.org>; or e-mail: info@lesbianhealthinfo.org.
