During this past week, I have had the pleasure of joining
two of my colleagues at community events that represent
the best of what the Womens Cancer Resource Center
offers. When you check out our online calendar you will
see that we offer a rich array of programs.
On Saturday, I joined Dolores Moorehead and
more than 200 African American women for the second
annual Each One Reach One Conference: Working Together
to Make a Change that was held at the Hilton Oakland
Airport.

Thanks to the hard work of a superb planning committee
that included Dolores Moorehead, Womens Cancer
Resource Center; Jackie Pugh, American Cancer Society;
Wendy Favila- Penney, Alameda County Medical Center-Navigator
Program and Debora Jones, Charlotte Maxwell Complementary
Clinic, the program fed the spirits and strengthened
the bodies of those who attended. An array of speakers
addressed topics that were challenging, provocative
and nurturing.
On May 8, I joined Millie Ruiz and our colleagues
from the Contra Costa County Spanish Speaking Womens
Cancer Initiative for a Mothers Day Celebration
at La Clinica Monument. Throughout the day, numerous
women, mostly Spanish speaking, completed a health survey
that helped identify prevention and screening strategies
that match their needs. Food, music, dance and childrens
entertainment created a festive environment and an opportunity
for women to focus on their own health care.
Now in our 20th year, the staff and volunteers of the
Womens Cancer Resource Center continue to provide
community, empowerment, education and advocacy. One
woman at a time.
Sincerely,
Peggy McGuire, Executive Director
