Women's Cancer Resource Center News

August 15, 2006

There are many ways you can support the Women’s Cancer Resource Center – by volunteering, donating, attending events and telling you family and friends about the services we provide.

Possibly the most challenging and rewarding way of supporting the center is by serving on the Board of Directors. Our Board currently includes nine highly talented and dedicated women who represent the communities we serve, lead our fundraising efforts and offer an extensive array of professional expertise to the Center – financial, legal, human resources, marketing and communications and social services.

Our Board is seeking individuals to join in the work we do to advance the mission and financial well being of the Women’s Cancer Resource Center . If you are interested or have a friend or colleague who might be interested in board service, please review the job description and contact me for an interview.

 Writing for Wellness

3rd Saturdays of each month, 2:00 – 4:00 pm

In this supportive workshop, we'll write like the wind, share our writing about our lives, and experience a deepening connection with ourselves and with each other.

By writing our thoughts down without stopping to judge or edit, we can see how our minds work. Often we move beyond the frenetic chatter of our conscious minds into the wisdom held in our subconscious.

Facilitators Jeanne Lupton is a writer and healing practitioner who has witnessed and personally experienced the emotional and physical healing that blooms from the two-part process of spontaneous writing and compassionate witnessing.

While this class is designed for non-writers (though writers are welcome!), you may leave hooked on the practice of writing to contact your subconscious wisdom!

Please contact Jeanne to register (510) 632-7548 or jeany98@aol.com

  WCRC Seeks Your Feedback

This year, the Women’s Cancer Resource Center has marked our 20th anniversary in numerous ways – through community celebrations and deep reflection about our history and mission, vision and values. And perhaps most importantly, we are looking to our future by assessing all of our programs against community needs today.

Additionally, we are working with several teams of graphics design students from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to develop a new logo and graphics design guidelines to update the look of our information materials, website and other collateral materials.

Please join Board members, staff and volunteers at the Center on August 30 from 11:30 to 1:00 for a presentation by the student teams of four proposed logos for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center . We are seeking your input to guide us in the selection process.

If you are interested in joining this “Brown Bag” lunch, please email peggy@wcrc.org.

  Our Mission

To empower women with cancer to be active and informed consumers and survivors; to provide community for women with cancer and their supporters; to educate the general community about cancer; and to be actively involved in the struggle for a life-affirming, cancer-free society.
