WCRC Gallery Show Application Guidelines

The Women's Cancer Resource Center Gallery books shows of LOCAL artists. We have nearly 100 linear feet of display space throughout our building. We use the Walker Hanging System.

We produce a postcard that we mail to our distribution list and then give the artists some cards to mail to her/his list too. We also send out publicity and have had listings in the S.F. Chronicle, Bay Guardian, Berkeley Daily Planet, CC Times, etc. The artist's name (that's you) and work will be displayed on our website and the show will be publicized through our bi-weekly e-newsletter.

WCRC provides snacks and most often live music at the receptions. We print labels for the art and display your resume, statement, business cards, or other info. We take 20% of sales.

At this point we are booking only group shows – please see our current "Call for Art" for shows scheduled through 2008. It is easiest to get into a show if you apply for one of the shows that is already scheduled. You may also apply with your friends and colleagues or individually and we may match you with other artists thematically or stylistically if we have any open slots for shows. Even if we really like your work we may not be able to place it into a group show depending on what other artists have submitted.

If this sounds good to you - please read the following carefully.

Since many of the clients who visit our Center may not be feeling well or may be upset, we request that the art we show not be “upsetting.” We usually show representative and/or colorful work. We mostly show 2-D art but have shown some smaller sculptures, ceramics, and some abstract work. You can visit the Gallery Archive to see previous art shows.

You can show us your work in a variety of ways - please just choose one!

1. E-mail the URL to your website. In your email please tell us a bit about you and your work and why you'd like to show at WCRC. Please also include a resume and artist statement.
2. E-mail three jpgs of your work. (Please don't send files that are 2 feet long that clog our mailbox for days) - please tell us a little about yourself and your art and why you want to show at WCRC. Please also include a resume and artist statement.
3. Send up to a dozen photos or color copies of your work. Slides are the last choice - I only have a small viewer and it doesn't show your work off to its full advantage. If you want your materials returned you MUST include a SASE. Please also include a resume and artist statement. If you need your materials back by a certain date – please say so.

Please don't drop by with your work as we don't have time to visit with everyone. If we are interested in showing your work we will be in contact with you. Everyone is welcome to apply for a show. We are committed to displaying work that represents the diversity of Oakland and our surrounding area. Artists of color especially encouraged to apply for a show.
