
Swimming Through Air & Time

The WCRC Gallerys upcoming show features Marsha Balians
vibrant figurative work and Judy Levits mixed-media
abstractions. Swimming Through Air and Time combines
the paintings of the two women artists who both utilize bold
color and explore emotional realms in their work.

Floating - Judy Levit
|
The exhibit presents Levits floating series
that using organic shapes and nonrealistic color to express
and investigation of the concepts of inner and
outer space. She creates from her imagination
and dreams, allowing the process of her work to show on the
canvas. She believes that lines and marks that appear and
disappear represent unspoken language and thoughts. Levit
has shown has shown her work at the Berkeley Art Center, Walnut
Creek Civic Arts, and Laney College.

Pond Life - Marsha Balian
|
The show also includes the work of self-taught artist, Marsha
Balian. She explores the role of family how each of
us weaves the desire for family or connection into our lives.
Balian has displayed her work at Buccis, La Peña
Cultural Center, and the ACCI Gallery. Her work has also graced
the covers of East Bay Monthly Magazine and Urban View.
The show runs October 22 through December 17, 2004.
A reception with the artists will be on Friday, October
22, 6-8 PM. The event features live music by Jazz
Express. The jazz trio includes Sally Hanna-Rhyne
on piano, David Topham on marimba and trumpet and Carol Dearmoant
on bass.
The WCRC Gallery is located at 5741 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland.
The gallery is wheelchair accessible. There is no charge for
the show or the reception.
Gallery hours Monday Friday from 9AM 5 PM.
