Swim Resources and Trainings
Places to Swim and Train
There are many wonderful pools in the Bay Area. Most, if not all, have set times for lap swim for minimal cost. This is a list of a sampling of Bay Area pools (pdf) - it is not an exhaustive list - but it can aid you in connecting to a pool near you. If you are unable to find a pool please contact ali@wcrc.org and she can do further research to help you find a pool. Individuals who would rather water-walk instead of swim are also welcome!
Swim Trainings
The Mills College Swim Team will be offering three separate swim trainings for Swim A Mile registrants in September to help swimmers reach their goals. The cost is $5 per training. Please RSVP for the trainings by e-mailing: ali@wcrc.org
The swim training sessions will take place on Saturdays September 15 and 29th. The beginners start at 10:00 am and more experienced swimmers start at 11:00 am for a stroke clinic. A flip turns clinic will be held on Saturday, September 22nd at the Swim-A-Palooza: A Pre-
Swim A Mile Pool Party at which you can get some fundraising tips. Held Saturday, Saturday, September 22, 9am – 11am Swim-A-Palooza is a chance for swimmers to check out the pool and also get some awesome coaching and tips in preparation for the big weekend. We will be offering:
- Flip turn coaching
- Fundraising tips
- Meet and greet fellow swimmers
- Breakfast
Training sessions will be held at Mills College Pool in Oakland, CA. If you are bringing children and they are not participating in the Swim A Mile or the training sessions, please do not leave them unattended or intend for them to free swim. We do not have enough lifeguards on duty to allow them to swim outside of the training sessions.
We have also compiled nine different workouts (pdf) for you to follow. Further workouts can be downloaded from the United States Masters Swimmers website.
