Wellness Workshops

We offer a variety of classes and workshops to promote healthy living, cancer prevention, and quality of life through creativity, movement, education, and activism. Many workshops are reserved for women with cancer, while others are open to everyone.

Herbal medicine can help boost your immune system and be great protection against colds and flues! In this class, you will learn how to make a traditional vinegar-based herbal remedy that you can take every day. You will be able to add this herbal remedy to your soups, salads, and other dishes. You will also get to take home a sample bottle for yourself, and your friends and family.

Tracey Brieger is a clinical herbalist who teaches herbal classes at the Ancestral Apothecary School of Oakland, and she has a private practice in energetic herbalism that is called, “From the Root Wellness” (www.fromtheroot.org). Everyone welcome.

Rapidly expanding research reveals that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression, and stress. Self-compassion will help with good maintenance of healthy habits such as diet, exercise and satisfying interpersonal relationships.

This 8 week course along with one on-site retreat which will take place on Tuesday Feb. 13th from 2:30 to 6:30, will be based on the groundbreaking research of Kristen Neff and the clinical research of Christopher Germer. Their research teaches the core principles and practices which will enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

Lynne Henderson, PhD., is the founder of the Shyness Institute.  Lynne was also the director of the Stanford Shyness Clinic for 25 years and a visiting scholar and lecturer in the Psychology Department at Stanford University. Everyone welcome. Registration required.

Rapidly expanding research reveals that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression, and stress. Self-compassion will help with good maintenance of healthy habits such as diet, exercise and satisfying interpersonal relationships.

This 8 week course along with one on-site retreat which will take place on Tuesday Feb. 13th from 2:30 to 6:30, will be based on the groundbreaking research of Kristen Neff and the clinical research of Christopher Germer. Their research teaches the core principles and practices which will enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

Lynne Henderson, PhD., is the founder of the Shyness Institute.  Lynne was also the director of the Stanford Shyness Clinic for 25 years and a visiting scholar and lecturer in the Psychology Department at Stanford University. Everyone welcome. Registration required.

Utilizing a whole chicken we will make a wholesome batch of chicken soup from the beginning to the end. We will discuss meal options and the health benefits from the remaining chicken stock. While the soup is simmering, we will bake a batch of nutrient dense gluten free homemade crackers. At the end we will enjoy a bowl of homemade nourishing chicken soup and crackers for our lunch.

Sandy Siegal is a certified nutrition consultant and traditional foods cook.

Rapidly expanding research reveals that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression, and stress. Self-compassion will help with good maintenance of healthy habits such as diet, exercise and satisfying interpersonal relationships.

This 8 week course along with one on-site retreat which will take place on Tuesday Feb. 13th from 2:30 to 6:30, will be based on the groundbreaking research of Kristen Neff and the clinical research of Christopher Germer. Their research teaches the core principles and practices which will enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

Lynne Henderson, PhD., is the founder of the Shyness Institute.  Lynne was also the director of the Stanford Shyness Clinic for 25 years and a visiting scholar and lecturer in the Psychology Department at Stanford University. Everyone welcome. Registration required.

Rapidly expanding research reveals that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression, and stress. Self-compassion will help with good maintenance of healthy habits such as diet, exercise and satisfying interpersonal relationships.

This 8 week course along with one on-site retreat which will take place on Tuesday Feb. 13th from 2:30 to 6:30, will be based on the groundbreaking research of Kristen Neff and the clinical research of Christopher Germer. Their research teaches the core principles and practices which will enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

Lynne Henderson, PhD., is the founder of the Shyness Institute.  Lynne was also the director of the Stanford Shyness Clinic for 25 years and a visiting scholar and lecturer in the Psychology Department at Stanford University. Everyone welcome. Registration required.

This is a special restorative workshop which will include dance, time to write in our journals and we will meditate. We will explore our own healing stories and the healing of our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical bodies. Please come wearing clothing that you can move about freely as we will be barefoot but if you cannot be barefoot please wear soft soled shoes.

Misia Denéa is a 500-hour certified Yoga instructor with a B.F.A in Dance from Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music and Dance. Her writing has been published in 2015’s “The Color of Hope: People of Color Mental Health Narratives, ” A New Spelling of our Names: An Exploration of the Psycho-Spiritual Experience of African-American Buddhist Lesbians” by Pamela Ayo Yetunde.

Exercise is extremely important in helping to alleviate effects of cancer treatments and maintaining good health after treatment. We will complete an easy set of a full body warm-up, an easy workout and relaxing cool down. We are working on muscle strength maintenance, our body composition, as well as our balance and flexibility. Come ready to exercise in comfortable clothes and shoes.

Janet Crandall is a personal trainer and health and fitness Instructor, from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and is a Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer (ACSM and ACS), one of fewer than 500 in the country. Everyone welcome. Registration required.

Rapidly expanding research reveals that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression, and stress. Self-compassion will help with good maintenance of healthy habits such as diet, exercise and satisfying interpersonal relationships.

This 8 week course along with one on-site retreat which will take place on Tuesday Feb. 13th from 2:30 to 6:30, will be based on the groundbreaking research of Kristen Neff and the clinical research of Christopher Germer. Their research teaches the core principles and practices which will enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

Lynne Henderson, PhD., is the founder of the Shyness Institute.  Lynne was also the director of the Stanford Shyness Clinic for 25 years and a visiting scholar and lecturer in the Psychology Department at Stanford University. Everyone welcome. Registration required.
