CANCELLED- Humor & Healing: A Stand-Up Comedy Workshop for Reframing Life’s Challenges (H)

November 28, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Event Series (See All)

** Class on 11/14 has been cancelled due to illness. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have and hope you can join the next session on December 12.

Discover how laughter can be a powerful tool for perspective, connection, and self-expression. In this supportive, no-experience-required workshop, you’ll learn to turn personal stories into lighthearted comedic material through guided writing prompts, basic joke-writing techniques, and collaborative feedback. Whether you want to perform, write, or simply share ideas, you’ll find a space to explore your creativity, connect with others, and leave each week feeling lighter. Optional performance opportunities will let you showcase your work in a safe, encouraging environment. Open to anyone curious about using humor as a way to process and share life experiences.

Saira Gupta is a UC Berkeley student and stand-up performer whose mother is a cancer survivor, an experience that inspired her to explore humor as a tool for resilience and connection. She performs regularly at Bay Area venues and is preparing for a career in medicine, where she hopes to integrate trauma-informed communication and therapeutic comedy into patient care.

Please note: this workshop is offered either via Zoom or IN-PERSON at WCRC, 2908 Ellsworth Street, Berkeley CA 94705.

This class will meet every other Friday from 2-3 pm as a hybrid class. The class will not be held the Friday after Thanksgiving (11/28) and Christmas (12/26).

Our classes and workshops are available to women and non-binary individuals, who are Alameda or Contra Costa County residents, and who either have/had cancer, or who are/have been a support person for someone with cancer.
